The fabulous regional gastronomy of Coastal Seafood, Sana-di-ge

An “absolutely need to try” Coastal Seafood restaurant owned by Mangalorean’s themselves summing up the heart and soul of Coastal food is Sana-di-ge located in the upscale market of Chanakyapuri. Sana-di-ge means a brass lit lamp kept on auspicious occasions in South India. The food served here is fresh, full of aromas and delightfully simple serving the regional delicacy of Coastal region of India. The innovative delicacies stick to the “time-honoured” specialties with ofcourse limited space in your stomach requires multiple visits. Savor the best food and travel the Coastal culture with all the luxury vibes here. This restaurant serves Mangalorean, Kerala, Goa, Chatinad, Maharashtra and food from entire coastal area.
Spread over at three floors, this 7 years old restaurant pairs elegant sitting inside with a relaxing courtyard at first floor catering to approx 95 people at a time.

The kitchen here is run by people all from Mangalore head by Chef Sukesh Kanchan who satiated our craving for coastal sea food. Obviously cant write about all the menu but each and every dish we tasted was soul satisfying and was good to the last byte. All the masalas here sourced from Mangalore itself and most of the seafood from Mumbai. The array of dishes in the menu are the original recipes that are being followed without making a lot of changes or adjustments.

On arrival you will be served with a drink Sol Kadhi, Rice Papad made with their own traditional masala blend served with six chutneys out of which my favorite was Apple Pineapple chutney. The starters after this we had are mentioned in the pictures which were all good but my fav became Chicken Ghee Roast and Tawa Fish with Mutton Soup with right blend of spices. Chicken Ghee Roast is prepared with Byadgi Chilli paste. Byadgi chillis are special chillis grown in Byadgi, Karnataka which are deep red in color and less spicy. Even in Tawa King Fish Byadgi Chilli flakes are used.

Though the tummies are full but taste buds still crave for the main course. On Chef recommendation we tried the following of which my favorite became Kori Kundapuri and Konju Monga Charu. These were served with Appam, Neer Dosa and Kerala Parantha which is all time favorite.

Not the forget the show stopper dessert of the evening ..
Elanner Payasam – Coconut cream and fresh tender coconut pulp. Trust me this dessert is to die for. Whenever I am visiting this area I ll always hop in for this dessert for sure.
